A trip to the Cu Chi district was the site of our HHH run on Sunday this week. The walking pack ventured over bridges and through rice paddy fields. We even walked through someone’s hut (after asking approval) to get across a bridge!
We didn’t see any snakes on this run, unlike the hare when she’d set it, but we saw ducks and water buffalo.
Can you see the wallowing buffalo? |
Although such fields look picturesque from the train, I have new respect for rice farmers now having walked around and in some of the wet, muddy fields. The thick mud leaves a silt which is really difficult to remove. And to walk around the edges of the fields is not that easy either, as the paths are usually narrow and covered in grass, or made of lumps of mud. It must be an arduous job working in those kinds of conditions all day every day, and with no hot shower to go home to at the end of the day.
