Teepee man update

I've been keen to see more about teepee man - and the Canberra Times have finally come to the party with a rather lame interview about life in a teepee on the lake. I say lame as there is no discussion as to why TPM is out there. And apparently the latest is that there is going to be a high court challenge to him being evicted.

Escape to the coast

On a long weekend, 80% of Canberrans flee to the beach - especially to Jervois Bay and surrounds. We stayed at Vincentia and I have to say that some of the local beaches are gorgeous. We saw very white sand (Guiness Book of Records quality), more dolphins than you could poke a stick at, and had the fun of neighbours visiting every day.

teepee guy update

Poor teepee guy. He's been moving around the lake, looking for the perfect spot, and possibly trying to avoid the legal definition of mooring. Unfortunately, he's been told he has to leave the lake within the next couple of weeks. I had been hoping to see the teepee glowing at night before his departure, but that's less likely to happen now as somebody stole his generator. Cruel.

resumption

I fell off the blogging wagon - but here I am, getting back on (or should that be in?)

March has been busy with guests, weekends away, settling (or not) into a new job, and various other amusements. This weekend has been a glorious celebration of slothfulness, except for a walk this afternoon in the parliamentary zone. Not to be confused with the twilight zone, this is the area in Canberra where many of the main political and cultural institutions can be found. It's also surprisingly good for walking around and seeing gardens, bush and getting a different angle on familiar buildings.

Exercise was necessary after a fab dinner. Last night M cooked a pork roast, complete with divine crackling.

What else has been happening? Last week I was hoping to capture some of the balloon spectacular taking place in Canberra. Driving to work each day I saw 6 to 9 balloons in the air most mornings. However, the spectacular take off takes place spectacularly early, and even at 7.45am on the last day I was only in time to take a pic of a sagging Matilda. Which looked really bizarre.

Self indulgent

Blogging is very self indulgent. I know that. But I have to admit that I get immense pleasure from checking my blog stats and seeing how many (or how few) hits I've had, and where those hits have come from. No doubt many of them are accidental, and fleeting - but still, I was very excited to see a hit from Equador. ¡Hola!

rain rain go away

It feels like it's been raining forever - ok, about three days straight. What happened to summer, I'd like to know. Officially today it's autumn and I think Canberra has already had its usual March rainfall - in one day. Yikes!

Lake G is swelling noticeably. I went for a walk this afternoon - it was still spitting, but I just had to do some exercise - and it was amazing to see how much the water level had risen. Picnic tables are awash.
