In the late afternoon M and I went out for beer. M had done some research and we had two beer houses on the itinerary. The first was Hoa Vien Brauhaus. Before we got there we passed the pink church (Tao Dinh) - a Catholic architectural phenomenon, quite impressive to see.
While at Hoa Vien, we momentarily pined for the German Club, and had to order some Czech style fried cheese (the closest we could get to deep fried camembert, and the first cheese we've had for absolute AGES). We inhaled, and also enjoyed the plain boiled potatoes on the plate - so plain! so potatoey! The dark beer also got the thumbs up from M.
After dodging the usual traffic on the pavement, and a quick trip to Parkson shopping centre to look for bedsheets (flat sheets are a rarity here - haven't quite worked out why yet) - our second beer stop was Nguyen Du Brauhof. I liked the lager here. M had sausage, sauerkraut and mash for dinner, which he thought was excellent. I had a Thai squid salad which unfortunately had more plastic than squid. (Yes, plastic! The waiter poked it in a sympathetic manner when I told him, but we still got charged for it.)
And during dinner I got a call - the school where I've been working may need me again. My last 2 lessons were going to be on Monday and Tuesday, but it seems I may be with the year 11s for a little longer.
