Happy Easter to you

One of our favourite jokes about Canberra is that we love it 'cos it's so easy to get out of. So true! Only took us 50 mins to get to Gunning to check out the market. A strange town with groovy old shop fronts and Max Cullen wandering around when not attending to his bookshop/gallery based in an old cinema. I couldn't resist a small purchase of a wooden ruler - beautiful object. When you hold it and smell it you can tell it's been a serious work instrument for decades. And I loved the community herb gardens.

Came home via a couple of wineries - more about that later.

Walking at Orroral tracking station

Had an outing to Namadji National Park to check out the Granite Tor walk at the old Orroral tracking station. About 50 minute drive from Canberra - lovely scenery and a moderately challenging walk. The track was steep in parts - a bit slippery on the gravel when coming down the hill. Excellent spot to see kangaroos, lizards and we also spotted a scarlet robin.

Beechworth to Canberra

A beautiful drive to Beechworth - lovely countryside via Miliwa, where we tasted some lovely cheese and wine.
Then, once in town and accomodation sorted, it was off to the local brewery for a cleansing beer. They also had bikes for loan - pity we weren't in town long enough to take advantage. We plan to visit the town again with our own bikes to try out the rail trail .
The historic cemetary is intriguing. Despite the fact that there were terrible riots on the gold fields nearby in Buckland, the Chinese cemetery was part of the Christian cemetery in Beechworth - how can that be? More investigation is required.

And so sad is the strangers section - people have been buried with no one knowing them, no one paying for a headstone or any other indication of who is below.

Melbourne to Beechworth

We loved Melbourne but there for such a short time I didn't have time for photos! Staying in Hawthorn was good fun with good wine shops and op shops in close proximity. The gig we went to was at the Espy - which was tops, but it was nice having drinks at Dogsbar prior - very civilised. And we checked out Lentilsasanything for dinner - tasty food and a good cause!

Then on to Beechworth

Marlo to Pt Albert

Continuing down the coast we ended up in a cute fishing village which boasts an excellent restaurant on the water, Wildfish. The restaurant has its own boat, ensuring the fish served is fresh!

Mallacoota to Marlo

More exciting wildlife as we continued on our way - did I mention earlier that we saw a seahorse while snorkelling at Ben Boyd National Park?! And then the very next day admired a seal catching fish around the Marlo jetty.

Eden to Mallacoota

The costal trip from Sydney to Melbourne is so beautiful - and so much amazing wildlife. What a thrill it was to see a seahorse 'in the wild' at Ben Boyd National Park.
