Gratuitous sign of the week

Seen in not one but two recent accommodation sites ...

Deco splendour

At Leeton we stayed at the Historic Hydro Motor Inn. Three star accommodation with 5 star bones. At first it did feel a little like the Overlook Hotel (from The Shining) but once the fire was lit in the bar it was quite lovely.

Lobby, Historic Hydro

Wikipedia tells me that the town of Leeton was designed by Walter Burley Griffin. The Roxy Theatre, designed by Kaberry and Chard (says Wikipedia), is a fabulous 1930s building. I wish we'd had time to see inside. Hurrah for conservationists.

On the road again

So we are on our way to Canberra...Not exactly where we expected our lives/ careers to take us, but you get that.

M is starting in a few weeks. Having time and the technology, we decided to drive the scenic route to the National Capital. We spent the first night in Burra at the Burra Motor Inn. The best thing you can say about the Burra Motor Inn is that the ducks were amusing.

Catholic Church, Burra.
The Catholic establishment may not get anything else, but they do understand real estate.

From Burra we travelled to Mildura. On the way, near the fruit quarantine bin just before Morgan, we passed the shoe tree. Don't know why...

We've always wanted to dine at Stefano's and so had made a booking for Tuesday night. My sister laughs as when she lived there Stefano's was a largely unknown little cafe. Now it is Very Serious Food. Luckily it lived up to expectations. We also dined at Stefano's bakery and cafe for breakfast, which was also amazing (but less expensive).

Having given Stefano most of our remaining money, we left Burra for Leeton.

vroom vroom

A wonderful last weekend in Adelaide. On Sunday we participated in the Bay to Birdwood classic car rally as passengers in my dad's car, with L driving.  The day got off to a shaky beginning as the car didn't like the cold Adelaide morning and wouldn't start! So jumper leads were required to get us to the start line. A few hours later, when we (and 1799 other cars) started the drive to Birdwood, we had to employ more primitive methods to get the old girl going again, but a team push got her on her way.

Where's the battery? Under the back seat.

Movers and groovers

Plenty of wildlife spotted this week on Yorke Peninsula. The warmer weather has brought out snakes and sleepy lizards. We also saw a fox and at Pt Turton I swear I saw seal flippers in the water.

Anstey not antsy

On Sunday we went for a walk up Anstey Hill. A recommended stroll with the main path taking you past the ruins of Newman's Nursery, and then a steep incline to the top of the hill.

There wasn't as many wildflowers here compared to Morialta, but it was still a lovely walk.

spot the wildlife

We took a walk in the Morialta conservation park, and saw plenty of birds, wildflowers and even two koalas! The weather continues to be brilliant - clear skies and temperature early 20s.

Trust me, that blob in the tree is a koala!

Yorke Peninsula was visible on the horizon
I checked out the Vinnies on The Parade on the way home. This was the only bargain to be had.
