kangaroo bounces back

Minus 5 this morning and a cracking frost. The frost didn't deter our local kangaroo, which returned to eye off the grass (which is greener on the other side don't you know). Apparently those people chasing it yesterday just wanted to get a close up shot - still misguided I say. But obviously being chased off didn't put the kangaroo off trying to find something tasty to eat.

backyard kangaroo

On Saturday morning we spotted a kangaroo in the mist, sitting not far from our back fence. It stayed around most of the day until some misguided fools tried to catch it. (Tip: you can't catch a kanga, and you shouldn't try unless you want to get hurt.)

using sony cybershot with imovie

In anticipation of our o/s holiday this year, I have been trying to solve a conundrum I've had since I changed my photographic equipment to a sony cybershot. I couldn't work out how to download moving images from the camera into the mac - and no amount of googling helped with the answer.  Tonight I discovered, by accident, and after exposure to some mac experts who gave me some new ideas, that having iphoto and imovie open at the same time, and once iphotos are all downloaded, I can 'see' the cybershot moving images in imovie (9) and can download them. Hurray! (Except now I don't have a good excuse to get an ipad before we go on hols. Hello gift idea!)

don't know what to say

Sad family things happening this week and don't really know what to say.

In amongst it all I had a work trip to Brisvegas and was diverted temporarily by the pineapple lamps in my hotel room - just for a moment or two.

Stayers

The rest of the week has flown, with expected July guests arriving and providing a good reason to go to The Ginger Room. The food was amazing, the service was excellent, and the wine plentiful.

things to do in Sydney - art part two

MCA has some wonderful things to view. Before actual viewing I downloaded the MCA ap, which reminded me that MCA has drawings from Veron Ah Kee, photos from Tracy Moffat and short films like 'This woman is not a car' that I didn't have time to stick around and see (but was so glad that people would get a chance to see it.)

The ap has a whole lot of info that I can't wait to listen to in a spare moment. I loved some of the exhibits in the biennale:

things to do in Sydney - art part one

One thing I'd been keen to do on the weekend was to check out the new Museum of Contemporary Art. First, the food. The new cafe is a wonderful location for a good view of the harbour. And the food was quite tasty.

Table view one
Table view two
Even when grey the harbour is beautiful
The MCA Cafe is on level 4 - high enough for a top view
Great sign (if you are an English speaker)

getting married?

If you are, saw the perfect wedding car for you while walking around the Rocks yesterday afternoon - I don't know exactly what it was, but it was long and oh those fins, baby!

Which Sydney pub is the oldest?

We tried the Australian Hotel (1889), went to one of our favorites The Lord Nelson (1843) and also the Hero of Waterloo (1841). The Fortune of War claims the title with the earliest liquor licence, but the venue was rebuilt in 1922. The best beer of the afternoon was at Lord Nelson with one of their own beers, Three Sheets.

Testing testing 123

Had a wonderful Friday evening enjoying the talents of Brett (Brit) and Jemaine AKA Flight of the Conchords. It was definitely Business Time. The Sydney Ent Cent was not as horrible as I feared it might be. Best song was the medieval song how to woo a lady ( woo woo woo woo).
And o my it's so warm here!

why don't we say

moonrise and moonset like sunrise and sunset?

the bad and the good

The mornings have been seriously cold - this morning the apparent temperature was minus 9.9 degrees. Actual temp minus 5.something. Took a good 10 minutes to clean my car windows of frost. But the sunsets have been fab lately too - this one from a couple of nights ago.

what made you laugh today?

Maybe I'm just tired, but this stobie pole advertising made me laugh so hard tonight.

Is Lionel Richie moving into the Jamison area and looking for a share house? Obviously whatever Lionel was advertising WAS what people were looking for.   All of Lionel's tear off phone numbers were gone. Love the 80s style jumper too.

gloomy Sunday

Sunday was cold and a bit rainy. We went for a walk around Lake Burley Griffin and it was good to do some exercise. This week has been rife with colds and flu - work, home, the bugs are everywhere.

After our walk we retired to the Wig and Pen for a cleansing ale. The dark one is a 'winter spiced ale' (infused with cumquats, vanilla and truffles) - very meaty; the lighter one was a 'lunch with the monks' - smooth and tasting of honeyed fruit - it was almost like a liqueur. Let's hope this lovely brewery finds a new home when the landlords finally turf their tenants out.

bear for lunch

Yesterday's lunchtime treats - a 'bear claw' and a choc ganache tart. These were from Knead Patisserie at Belconnen Markets - truly delicious.
